What is Form 990 and what are the filing requirements?

Form 990 is the annual information form required to be filed by nonprofit organizations. It must be submitted by the 15th day of the 5th month after the end of the fiscal year of the nonprofit organization. Depending on the amount of total revenues of the organization, it may register online using Form 990 N or use Form 990-EZ or it may be required to file the more extensive Form 990. Substantial penalties apply if an exempt organization does not file this required form, and under specific circumstances, loss of exempt status may result. See more at this link for Form 990.
